Women’s Health Matters (WHM)

WHM works exclusively with women, and they prioritise women from the most deprived areas of Leeds, working within the areas of Leeds identified as being in the lowest 10% in Europe. Many of the women they work with are facing multiple difficulties due to poverty, unemployment, racism and further discrimination. WHM provides peer support around domestic violence, childhood abuse, teenage pregnancy, self-harm. WHM have supported disabled women to increase access to health screening and maternity services.

Rainbow Hearts Women’s Group – Drop-in

A group for asylum seekers and refugees delivered by Womens Health Matters in partnership with PAFRAS (Positive Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers). The aim of the group is to give an emotional and practical support and information for women asylum seekers in Leeds. With a purpose of, a regular and consistent group that provides a safe and supportive environment and resource for practical help and information to prevent isolation and destitution, reducing the risk of further abuse and suicide.

The Drop-in Offer
Social contact in a safe women’s group to meet other women in similar circumstances. English language support. Access to food, clothes and other resources. Education and health training Access to contraception. Support around domestic violence, female genital mutilation, sexual abuse, trafficking and prostitution. Financial support for transport. Childcare and support for children. Signposting and access to services. Trips to aid education and reduce isolation.
