LRF Women's Group
LRF prides itself on its collaborative approach to help the refugee and asylum seeker communities. We work in partnership with Skyline, Women Together, Women’s Health Matters and Leeds City Council’s Public Health department to provide free services that cater to the specific needs of women. These services include activities that encourage women’s physical and mental health and wellbeing alongside community integration.
Our services include:
Women’s only ESOL classes
Women’s Wellbeing Group
Women’s Health Matters Group
Women’s only ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes
LRF hosts a woman’s only English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) class. These classes cover topics like the health system, transport, use of local libraries and different types of supermarkets. This ensures that in addition to learning English, women learn about cultural differences in the UK. This aids community integration. Our women’s only class also welcomes women with children as we provide childcare in the class. This ensures that childcare barriers faced by mothers are minimised.
Can come to an environment where they feel safe, can know their child will be cared for, and where they can learn English to aid them in life in the UK.
Women’s only wellbeing group
LRF offers a bi-weekly women’s wellbeing group that runs for two hours on Thursdays and Fridays. It provides informal education in the first half such as teaching the women English vocabulary about the chosen activity, whether this be sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery, and the second hour lets the women put this into practice.
Please note that this group requires registration before attendance. There is also a class capacity of 20 students; to ensure that this capacity is not exceeded, there is weekly sign up process managed by Ranya.

LRF believes it is important to celebrate women. We therefore have various celebrations like our annual Refugee Week celebration that gathers various women from refugee, migrant, and asylum seeker communities. We also celebrate alongside other organisations like Women’s Arise and Women Mafwa for International Girls Day and International Women’s Day.
